MIAMI — With the collapse of the international mortgage market and problematic federal housing programs, the dream of owning a house has become a distant reality for many people with low incomes in Mexico. To address the housing crisis, Échale a tu casa provides sustainable housing solutions to Mexican communities in need. Échale a tu casa has a sustainable community program that provides resources to help people independently build houses for low-income communities in Mexico. As a result, people receive both housing and a marketable craft. SAP solutions and partners help Échale a tu casa, a small and growing company, better manage its expanding business operations from supply chain to performance management.
“SAP software and solutions help enable us to work more effectively and multiply the amount of housing solutions we are able to provide to low-income Mexican families,” said Francesco Piazzesi, CEO of Échale a tu casa.
Échale a tu casa uses the SAP Business One application, designed to be easy-to-use and fast-to-implement for small businesses as well as affiliates and subsidiaries of larger companies. The application covers key processes — from accounting and financials to customers and inventory — that are needed to run an end-to-end business. According to current estimates, the program is expected to deliver more than 10,000 family housing solutions between June 2013 and June 2014. The company anticipates the project will impact more than 50,000 people.
“Construction of a single housing unit involves approximately 37 different industries and the integration of at least 60 products. Additionally, for every 100 houses built, the program provides job opportunities to nearly 350 individuals,” said Gilberto Anaya, CEO, Avantis. “These activities generate thousands of items that need to tracked or recorded every day. An integrated solution such as SAP Business One helps control processes and inventories, improve efficiency and avoid additional costs that undermine the efforts of Mexico’s underprivileged.”

Started as a non-profit, Echale a tu casa is now a for-profit organization working with SAP corporate social responsibility (CSR) affiliate Ashoka Emprendedores Sociales. SAP collaborates with Ashoka globally as part of its focus on supporting entrepreneurship with technology, employee talent and capital. Ashoka has one of the largest networks of social entrepreneurs worldwide and helps SAP identify entrepreneurs and small businesses globally.
Échale a tu casa focuses on the construction of social housing units that are collaboratively built by families within a community and who are paid for their efforts. They use locally available, environmentally-friendly materials to construct top-quality homes. The organization helps to create citizen committees, which can then handle the project through various stages from design, as guided by a team of architects specifically trained to construct social housing solutions, to financing and actual construction of the project. This type of domestic leadership enables housing solutions to meet local needs and preferences. As such, construction varies significantly from one region to another. Based on this model, the program has delivered over 2,000 houses in nine Mexican states and has about 2,200 more underway.
SAP has provided technology donations to more than 5,000 non-governmental and non-profit organizations. A combination of software, training and other services from SAP helps recipients improve critical business areas such as performance management, fundraising operations and donor reporting.

WALLDORF — SAP today announced the latest release of the SAP BusinessObjects Mobile mobile app. Now available on the iTunes store, the mobile app brings together multiple business intelligence (BI) and analytic applications from SAP into a single app, offering customers the flexibility and freedom to do business better on-the-go. The new 5.0 release puts the power of mobile analytics from SAP in one place, enabling users to easily interact with reports and dashboards and enjoy self-service discovery and exploration.
As organizations shift from a predominantly PC-based workforce to mobile, they cannot afford to have employees disconnected from the enterprise when critical decisions need to be made. WALLDORF — SAP today unveiled the 4.2 versions of SAP Data Services and SAP Information Steward, flexible, open and real-time data management software with over 30 years of product development. Worldwide enterprises have chosen SAP for the breadth of information management solutions that offer new and enhanced capabilities to help integrate, transform and improve the value of data. These solutions address the need for better information governance, meet big data requirements and create a simpler user experience that helps organizations run better.
Data stewards now have the ability to assess the financial consequence of poor data across a range of critical business initiatives, such as information governance, big data analytics, business intelligence (BI), data migrations and more. The new business impact analysis feature of SAP Information Steward enables users to track metrics and assign a financial value to each data issue, as well as identify potential savings using what-if analysis of adjusting the quality levels.
Users are also guided step-by-step by a data quality advisor feature to rapidly measure and fix the quality of their information assets. SAP solutions for the all enterprise software market experienced above-market growth in 2012, outpacing growth of the overall market and many leading competitors. Data quality and data integration solutions from SAP have been positioned by Gartner as a Market Share Leader in its “Market Share Analysis: All Software Markets, Worldwide, 2012.”* In the report, SAP holds the No. 2 market position for overall data integration and data quality tools, within one percentage point of the market share leader. WALLDORF — Chief information officers (CIOs) are supporting change without disruption by joining the hybrid cloud revolution, and they’re not looking back. According to a recent national survey conducted by Wakefield Research on behalf of SAP, CIOs believe hybrid cloud environments, which integrate on-premise and cloud-based applications, reduce complexity and increase flexibility. Although the majority of respondents believe a hybrid approach simplifies IT processes, CIOs still report institutional barriers that need to be overcome in order for the integration of cloud and on-premise solutions to gain wider acceptance. SAP, which has one of the most comprehensive cloud portfolios on the market, is collaborating with CIOs to build cloud strategies that protect and leverage existing investments in on-premise applications while offering business flexibility.
“Our rapid growth and need for flexibility led us to implement SAP Cloud for Travel while keeping our on-premise applications in place, creating a challenge for data management,” said Tony Velleca, chief information officer of UST Global. “SAP enabled the seamless integration between our cloud and on-premise applications in order to maintain consistency of critical data while accelerating business processes.”

MANZINI, Swaziland — As part of its commitment to help the world run better and improve people’s lives, SAP has contributed technology and education-related donations to Young Heroes, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that supports HIV/AIDS orphans. This donation is part of SAP’s ambitious corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in Africa.
The devastation of HIV/AIDS is creating a generation of orphans in Swaziland. Though it is one of Africa’s smallest countries, Swaziland has the world’s highest rate of HIV/AIDS infection. According to the 2012 HIV Incidence Measurement Survey, 31 percent of adults ages 18 to 49 have HIV. Nearly 125,000 Swazi children have lost at least one parent to the epidemic. Already, more than 15,000 households in the country are headed by children who are trying to raise their little brothers and sisters by themselves.
In addition to supporting Young Heroes with education activities, SAP Africa has contributed software licenses and hardware donations, as well as consulting services, to help support the functioning of Young Heroes day-to-day operations. With SAP’s support, including the donation of SAP Sybase Replication Server software to overcome bandwidth challenges, the Young Heroes staff members can process overseas donations rapidly and efficiently. The increased response time to operations means the Young Heroes staff now have more time to directly interact with and support the children.
Working with U.S.-based company Storm Code, a Web and content management solutions provider, SAP has developed a system through which Young Heroes staff can work offline in real time, with the work replicated to the server during nighttime hours. SAP’s donation of time, expertise and hardware has already proven invaluable. To date several hundred HIV/AIDS orphans have found continued sponsorship via the Young Heroes website. With the continued support of SAP and resulting efficiency improvements, those numbers are expected to increase.
