MIAMI — With the collapse of the international mortgage market and problematic federal housing programs, the dream of owning a house has become a distant reality for many people with low incomes in Mexico. To address the housing crisis, Échale a tu casa provides sustainable housing solutions to Mexican communities in need. As part of its mission to help the world run better and improve people’s lives, SAP AG donated software to Échale a tu casa to help it more efficiently provide materials and training to empower people to build their own homes. SAP donated the software at the 2012 SAP Latin American Partner Summit and is showcasing the results at this year’s event. SAP implementation partner Avantis donated all professional services for the project.
Échale a tu casa has a sustainable community program that provides resources to help people independently build houses for low-income communities in Mexico. As a result, people receive both housing and a marketable craft. SAP solutions and partners help Échale a tu casa, a small and growing company, better manage its expanding business operations from supply chain to performance management.
“SAP software and solutions help enable us to work more effectively and multiply the amount of housing solutions we are able to provide to low-income Mexican families,” said Francesco Piazzesi, CEO of Échale a tu casa.
Échale a tu casa uses the SAP Business One application, designed to be easy-to-use and fast-to-implement for small businesses as well as affiliates and subsidiaries of larger companies. The application covers key processes — from accounting and financials to customers and inventory — that are needed to run an end-to-end business. According to current estimates, the program is expected to deliver more than 10,000 family housing solutions between June 2013 and June 2014. The company anticipates the project will impact more than 50,000 people.
“Construction of a single housing unit involves approximately 37 different industries and the integration of at least 60 products. Additionally, for every 100 houses built, the program provides job opportunities to nearly 350 individuals,” said Gilberto Anaya, CEO, Avantis. “These activities generate thousands of items that need to tracked or recorded every day. An integrated solution such as SAP Business One helps control processes and inventories, improve efficiency and avoid additional costs that undermine the efforts of Mexico’s underprivileged.”
“This project shows how SAP is engaging with its ecosystem to help the world run better and improve people’s lives,” said Emilio Mariño, senior vice president, Ecosystem and Channels, SAP Latin America and The Caribbean. “With SAP Business One, Échale a tu casa can enjoy the same benefits as leading companies worldwide, including enhanced financial control and real-time data management. This joint project is expected to benefit Mexican communities by enabling them to enjoy access to a decent, dignified housing solution.”
Started as a non-profit, Echale a tu casa is now a for-profit organization working with SAP corporate social responsibility (CSR) affiliate Ashoka Emprendedores Sociales. SAP collaborates with Ashoka globally as part of its focus on supporting entrepreneurship with technology, employee talent and capital. Ashoka has one of the largest networks of social entrepreneurs worldwide and helps SAP identify entrepreneurs and small businesses globally.
Échale a tu casa focuses on the construction of social housing units that are collaboratively built by families within a community and who are paid for their efforts. They use locally available, environmentally-friendly materials to construct top-quality homes. The organization helps to create citizen committees, which can then handle the project through various stages from design, as guided by a team of architects specifically trained to construct social housing solutions, to financing and actual construction of the project. This type of domestic leadership enables housing solutions to meet local needs and preferences. As such, construction varies significantly from one region to another. Based on this model, the program has delivered over 2,000 houses in nine Mexican states and has about 2,200 more underway.
SAP has provided technology donations to more than 5,000 non-governmental and non-profit organizations. A combination of software, training and other services from SAP helps recipients improve critical business areas such as performance management, fundraising operations and donor reporting.

OEM partners are leveraging embedded analytics and the massive speed and scale of SAP HANA to unlock the power of data and enable optimized and innovative business processes. With the help of this technology, OEM partners are equipped to play an increasingly critical role in helping organizations of all sizes identify, purchase, implement and run ideal solutions to address unique business needs.
“We have already seen greater adoption of SAP HANA within our ecosystem, and the OEM space will serve as a critical piece in delivering this game-changing solution to customers of all sizes in North America,” said said John Graham, head of Ecosystems & Channels, SAP Americas. “Our OEM partners are leaders in their markets, and by running SAP HANA, they can help end users be more flexible, faster and knowledgeable about their business. Through these partnerships, SAP demonstrates the symbiotic relationship it has with its ecosystem. We work hand-in-hand with partners and they clearly see the limitless opportunities SAP HANA can provide.”
SAP works closely and intensively with developers, independent software vendors (ISVs), systems integrators, software resellers and startups to leverage enablement tools and resources and tap into the power of SAP HANA.
“Expanding our OEM partnership with SAP is a natural next step in our efforts in growing Clockwork’s business with our Insight LCM platform,” said Joe Berti, CEO, Clockwork. “Bringing SAP HANA to our products and customers enhances the predictive analytics capabilities for our enterprise asset management solutions. We expect that our customers will be able to generate ‘future bigger data’ by sourcing, collecting, cleaning, correcting, completing and categorizing critical asset performance data used in predictive analytics. This will allow them to optimize parts ordering and maintenance scheduling. Continuing our work as an SAP partner helps ensure that our customers have the resources to help their businesses improve operations and achieve growth.”
“By extending our partnership with SAP, we continue to innovate and develop our products by leveraging the power of SAP HANA,” said Andres Reiner, president and CEO, PROS. “With SAP HANA, customers will be able to use real-time data science to identify sales opportunities that are most likely to close, offers that are most likely to sell, and prices that are more likely to win. PROS and SAP share a common goal of empowering the customer with tools designed to result in faster, more informed actions that help drive growth and overall business performance. SAP is a proven leader in real-time, in-memory analytics, and we are pleased to increase our collaboration with them as an OEM partner.”

The program will provide access to all relevant SAP technologies in one simplified framework under a single, global contract. The announcement was made at the SAP Americas Partner Leadership Summit, being held on July 28-31 in Miami.
“We are convinced that our technologies help companies speed up their business innovation in order to maintain competitive advantage,” said Eric Duffaut, president, Global Ecosystem and Channels, SAP AG. “Joining forces with a strong partner ecosystem that innovates on top of our platforms enables us to best serve our customers’ rapidly evolving needs.”

WALLDORF — SAP today announced the latest release of the SAP BusinessObjects Mobile mobile app. Now available on the iTunes store, the mobile app brings together multiple business intelligence (BI) and analytic applications from SAP into a single app, offering customers the flexibility and freedom to do business better on-the-go. The new 5.0 release puts the power of mobile analytics from SAP in one place, enabling users to easily interact with reports and dashboards and enjoy self-service discovery and exploration.
As organizations shift from a predominantly PC-based workforce to mobile, they cannot afford to have employees disconnected from the enterprise when critical decisions need to be made. When information is difficult to access outside the office or not available in real time, organizations are forced to answer business questions with old data or none at all. The new release of SAP BusinessObjects Mobile, built on SAP Mobile Platform, now enables users to collaborate using the SAP Jam social software platform, do voice command as a form of annotation and ask any question and get answers with “Exploration Views” on their iOS device.
“SAP BusinessObjects Mobile has enabled Kimberly-Clark to build a portfolio of mobile BI applications that provide key decision-makers with access to analytics and powerful insights anywhere, anytime,” said Brian Marier, BI architect, Kimberly-Clark Corporation. “Over the past several months SAP has delivered rapid innovation in mobile BI enablement, consistently introducing new BI content types, features and user experience improvements to the product. The latest version of SAP BusinessObjects Mobile is another major milestone in that journey.”
Key updates to the 5.0 release of SAP BusinessObjects Mobile include:
“With the latest release of SAP BusinessObjects Mobile, SAP has brought several content types into one mobile client and enhanced the overall user experience,” said Cindi Howson, founder, BI Scorecard. “This consolidation of multiple applications and the improvements in navigation make SAP a leader in mobile BI among the BI platform vendors.”
SAP also announced a new software development kit included with SAP BusinessObjects Mobile that allows businesses to customize their mobile analytic applications to meet their business and security needs, brand requirements and enterprise mobility strategy.

WALLDORF — SAP today unveiled the 4.2 versions of SAP Data Services and SAP Information Steward, flexible, open and real-time data management software with over 30 years of product development. Worldwide enterprises have chosen SAP for the breadth of information management solutions that offer new and enhanced capabilities to help integrate, transform and improve the value of data. These solutions address the need for better information governance, meet big data requirements and create a simpler user experience that helps organizations run better.
Data stewards now have the ability to assess the financial consequence of poor data across a range of critical business initiatives, such as information governance, big data analytics, business intelligence (BI), data migrations and more. The new business impact analysis feature of SAP Information Steward enables users to track metrics and assign a financial value to each data issue, as well as identify potential savings using what-if analysis of adjusting the quality levels.
Users are also guided step-by-step by a data quality advisor feature to rapidly measure and fix the quality of their information assets. This new capability provides intelligence to analyze and assess data and make recommendations for any required remedies to data issues, such as using built-in workflows to allow the user to refine cleansing rules to get even better data correction results. SAP Information Steward now has the ability to be seamlessly integrated with other solutions, for example with the SAP Master Data Governance application, to offer a one-click launch of the governance process to correct enterprise master data based on data quality analysis.
“The vision of American Water’s data management program is to have the data life cycle baked into everyday business,” said Veronica Kinsella, enterprise data lead, American Water. “We are integrating SAP Data Services and SAP Information Steward for a more complete approach to data quality, allowing key data elements to go through upfront validations and proactive data reviews as well as producing scorecards and monitoring reports that help measure the quality of data overtime.”
Additional capabilities of the 4.2 versions of SAP Data Services and SAP Information Steward include the ability to:
“As one of the largest packaged food companies in North America, ConAgra Foods must process and analyze massive amounts of data across a wide variety of brands on a daily basis,” said Tim Hack, lead data warehouse administrator, ConAgra Foods. “SAP Data Services has allowed us to easily integrate between SAP ERP Central Component and many other systems to experience a more seamless view and flow of company data.”
In May 2013, SAP was named a winner in the 10th annual Nucleus Research Technology ROI Awards, which highlights organizations that have successfully leveraged IT deployments to maximize value per dollar spent. SAP was recognized for its implementation of the SAP HANA platform and SAP Data Services to build a customer data standardization and matching service (SAM) that produced a return on investment (ROI) of 422 percent in just four months. Nucleus Research found that the project enabled SAP to reduce the need to purchase outside data services, avoid increasing its number of data stewards and increase the productivity of sales and marketing staff.
“With the SAM solution, our company has improved the speed and quality of integrating customer data from multiple sources, including our recent M&A,” said Maria Villar, group vice president, Global Data Management, Global Customer Operations, SAP AG. “We are using one SAM solution across the company and in multiple applications, thereby reducing operational cost and technology costs. In my experience setting up information governance programs, I’ve come to truly believe in the advantages of robust technologies such as SAP HANA and SAP Data Services. Companies cannot scale without the proper technology.”

WALLDORF — Chief information officers (CIOs) are supporting change without disruption by joining the hybrid cloud revolution, and they’re not looking back. According to a recent national survey conducted by Wakefield Research on behalf of SAP, CIOs believe hybrid cloud environments, which integrate on-premise and cloud-based applications, reduce complexity and increase flexibility. Although the majority of respondents believe a hybrid approach simplifies IT processes, CIOs still report institutional barriers that need to be overcome in order for the integration of cloud and on-premise solutions to gain wider acceptance. SAP, which has one of the most comprehensive cloud portfolios on the market, is collaborating with CIOs to build cloud strategies that protect and leverage existing investments in on-premise applications while offering business flexibility.
“Our rapid growth and need for flexibility led us to implement SAP Cloud for Travel while keeping our on-premise applications in place, creating a challenge for data management,” said Tony Velleca, chief information officer of UST Global. “SAP enabled the seamless integration between our cloud and on-premise applications in order to maintain consistency of critical data while accelerating business processes.”
Notable survey results include:
“The allure of the cloud means many organizations are adopting cloud-based applications that augment on-premises ERP and are increasingly moving core elements of ERP to the cloud,” said Nigel Rayner, Gartner analyst. “CIOs and ERP leaders need to be prepared with an integration strategy that anticipates this world of hybrid ERP.”*
About the Survey
The survey was conducted by Wakefield Research in April 2013, using in-depth telephone interviews to explore attitudes about the hybrid cloud. Among the U.S.-based 52 CIOs interviewed, 22 respondents were from Fortune 1000 companies and, 30 respondents were from companies in the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America.

MANZINI, Swaziland — As part of its commitment to help the world run better and improve people’s lives, SAP has contributed technology and education-related donations to Young Heroes, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that supports HIV/AIDS orphans. This donation is part of SAP’s ambitious corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in Africa.
The devastation of HIV/AIDS is creating a generation of orphans in Swaziland. Though it is one of Africa’s smallest countries, Swaziland has the world’s highest rate of HIV/AIDS infection. According to the 2012 HIV Incidence Measurement Survey, 31 percent of adults ages 18 to 49 have HIV. Nearly 125,000 Swazi children have lost at least one parent to the epidemic. Already, more than 15,000 households in the country are headed by children who are trying to raise their little brothers and sisters by themselves.
In addition to supporting Young Heroes with education activities, SAP Africa has contributed software licenses and hardware donations, as well as consulting services, to help support the functioning of Young Heroes day-to-day operations. With SAP’s support, including the donation of SAP Sybase Replication Server software to overcome bandwidth challenges, the Young Heroes staff members can process overseas donations rapidly and efficiently. The increased response time to operations means the Young Heroes staff now have more time to directly interact with and support the children.
Working with U.S.-based company Storm Code, a Web and content management solutions provider, SAP has developed a system through which Young Heroes staff can work offline in real time, with the work replicated to the server during nighttime hours. SAP’s donation of time, expertise and hardware has already proven invaluable. To date several hundred HIV/AIDS orphans have found continued sponsorship via the Young Heroes website. With the continued support of SAP and resulting efficiency improvements, those numbers are expected to increase.
“SAP recognizes the vital role we play in empowering, educating and improving the welfare of the communities in which we operate. Supporting Young Heroes goes a long way toward helping orphans and child-headed households affected by HIV/AIDS,” said Pfungwa Serima, CEO, SAP Africa. “This CSR initiative exemplifies SAP’s mission to help the world run better and improve people’s lives. We do this by delivering new technology innovations that we believe address today’s and tomorrow’s challenges without disrupting business operations.”
SAP Africa has committed to the support of HIV/AIDS orphans and families by continuing to invest in Young Heroes. For example, next year SAP plans to develop a mobile app for the annual Bushfire Festival, a music and arts festival in Swaziland, to help festival visitors learn more about Young Heroes and facilitate online donations.
