About the General Motors SAP Operations Team

The SAP Operations team is responsible to manage incidents, service requests and corrective CRs to avoid a potential interruption or reduction in the quality of a service to the GM Business Users. Global SAP Operations is focused on preventive, adaptive and corrective maintenance activities.

About the role:

The SAP FI / CO Operations Analyst is responsible for the flawless operation of the technology and processes related to the SAP FI / CO module. This role assists the project teams during the design/development/rollout of large-scale SAP FI / CO solutions with focus on sustainability and post-implementation support. He/she will provide functional knowledge & develop deliverables within the context of the individual role.

He/she will assist the user community in identification and remediation of all production issues related to SAP FI / CO module. He/she must have knowledge of master data structures and basic processes in order to identify and correct any production related issues in the SAP FI / CO module (but not limited to the SAP FI / CO module).

He/she gathers operations redesign requirements and support the testing (regression, health checks, etc.) and implementation of package-based application software.

The SAP FI / CO Operations Analyst is responsible to build expertise in interface and data conversions used in the productive environment as well as gain knowledge in this regard of new functionality going to be deployed. Deep knowledge of SAP FI / CO integration with the Logistic Modules of SAP is desirable.

The position must maintain conceptual understanding of enterprise software package solutions and related implementation/operations issues from a technical perspective.

He/she establishes credibility at all levels within the user community and builds problem-solving partnerships with users and colleagues. The SAP FI / CO Operations Analyst will assist in any project development activities related to SAP FI / CO to assure that the delivered system is designed for sustainability and long term support.



Minimum Qualifications:

Must have

- Knowledge of master data structures and basic processes in order to identify and correct any production related issues in the SAP FI / CO module

- Knowledge of the SAP PS (Project system) and it’s integration with other modules

- Experience in New GL and parallel ledger on a global template in SAP ECC 6.0

- Experience working with Master Data Governance for Financials (MDGF)

- Experience with interfaces and IDOCS relating to SAP FI / CO module

- Experience with Project management using Solution Manager

- Experience with Invest to Divest (ITD) and Record to Report (RTR)

- Strong technical abilities to understand the complex interface structure in highly integrated landscapes

- Ability to direct the activities of ABAP resources to correct deficiencies identified in deployed systems

- At least 6 years’ experience working with the SAP FI / CO module of SAP

- At least 2 full cycle SAP deployments

- Experience in working in an Global SAP Operations organization

- Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and demanding environment

- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in a technical discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

- Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential

- SAP E2E Root Cause Analysis certification

SAP and University of Cambridge to Team Up for Autism at Work Initiative

WALLDORF — SAP AG today announced a new internship program with the University of Cambridge that will support Autism at Work, the company’s unique global initiative to employ people with autism. The company issued this announcement as it brings onboard its first group of employees with autism in the United States in its Palo Alto, California, and Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, offices. Later this spring Vancouver and Montreal sites will join these initial North American SAP sites.

SAP and University of Cambridge Internship

SAP and the University of Cambridge plan to create a five-year agreement to identify talented students for the Autism at Work initiative. As part of the internship, the students will join the program in one of five SAP locations, India, US, Canada, Ireland or Germany, with the goal of being selected to becoming SAP employees at the end of their internship. Students with skills in software knowledge and programming are the primary target group.

SAP plans to work specifically with the Autism Research Centre at University of Cambridge University, directed by Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, a leading autism researcher internationally. Professor Baron-Cohen will help ensure that the internship process is designed to be “autism-friendly” and compliant with the autism strategy as written by the UK Department of Health. Professor Baron-Cohen will also provide ongoing consultation with SAP for its Autism at Work initiative.

The program with the University of Cambridge shows SAP’s momentum in creating global support for Autism at Work since its global partnership with Specialisterne was announced last May. Specialisterne is a group that helps people with autism get training and support for technical jobs, to rollout the program worldwide.

The California Department of Rehabilitation administers one of the largest Vocational Rehabilitation program in the country, serving as an employment resource for people with disabilities. About the Role:

The Sr. Report Analyst/Developer is a senior hands-on technical role responsible for leading a group of developers in engaging end users and business analysts in understanding business requirements, creating prototype templates, conducting data gap analysis, modeling and implementing supporting data structures, designing and developing needed dashboards, reports, frameworks, models and other informational capabilities required to support the reporting/analytics needs of the global purchasing and supply chain team. The Sr. Reporting Analyst/Developer will have complete expertise in his/her area of technical domain and act as a SME while working closely with other IT stakeholders including the Architecture team, Vertical Application teams and the Infrastructure Team (Server, Database, Storage, Network, Security) to help deliver quality and timely BI solutions to the business.

Minimum Qualifications:

- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, information technology, math, sciences or technical discipline or equivalent experience/training

- Minimum 7-10 years of demonstrated experience in designing and developing reports on the Cognos platform as part of an enterprise solution. Experience writing reports using other tools such as Tableau, WebFocus, Microstrategy, SAS is a plus

- 7-10 years of Hands-on advanced experience with all the Cognos BI Studios including Framework Manager, Report Studio, Analysts Studio, Business Insight Advanced, and Administration.

- 3-5 years of experience in a technical leadership role providing technical guidance and leadership to other developers on BI/Reporting developemnt projects

- Ability to independently develop Framework Manager Models and advanced Report Studio and/or Analysts Studio reports is required.

- Past proven experience engaging business users to ensure that appropriate business needs are clearly defined, communicated and delivered at or above expectations

- Experience with Cognos SDK and Web Services techniques

- Strong understanding and working knowledge of JavaScript, Java and JSP

Intelligent Business Operations Bundle powered by SAP HANA Helps Organizations Contextualize Big Data Insights into Processes

LONDON — SAP AG today announced a new intelligent business operations bundle that helps organizations infuse Big Data insights in real time into their processes to work smarter and improve responsiveness to threats and opportunities. The announcement was made at the Gartner Business Process Management Summit, being held March 19-20 in London.

Today’s organizations accumulate massive volumes of structured and unstructured data from business applications, machines, social media and more. However, enterprises are challenged to exploit the value of this information within the context of end-to-end processes such as procure to pay, order to cash, idea to offering and plan to inventory, among others. Many organizations struggle to have one single view of their processes and make use of Big Data in a way that empowers line-of-business users to improve their operations.

The intelligent business operations bundle from SAP addresses these challenges, allowing organizations to streamline their operations and embed Big Data insights into their processes in real time. Line-of-business users will be empowered to gain full visibility into end-to-end operations to improve decision-making and to take corrective actions when or even before issues occur.

SAP Launches New Program to Support Student Entrepreneurs

WALLDORF — SAP AG today announced a new global program that aims to provide comprehensive support for students who want to start businesses that develop real-time solutions and Big Data applications.

Participants in the entrepreneurship program will receive support in developing new applications on the SAP HANA platform. The students will be able to use SAP software free of charge to develop applications and will be assisted by SAP experts. A comprehensive training program will provide the necessary technical background on SAP HANA as well as SAP Mobile Platform. Students will also be trained in design thinking methodology to help them along the process from an idea through to the finished product.

Once students have set up their business, they can participate in the SAP Startup Focus program and receive free-of-charge technical support, consulting and marketing services from SAP. The company will also assist with the market launch, provide access to the SAP partner network and offer opportunities to participate or hold presentations at events organized by SAP or other manufacturers. To open up new sources of funding, young entrepreneurs will receive access to SAP Ventures, the independent venture capital firm affiliated with SAP, and other venture capital companies.

“For a market leader in software, a high priority is strong entrepreneurship to foster the development of the most dynamic, innovative, high-quality software in the world,” said Bill McDermott, co-CEO and member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, and executive ambassador of the new program. “We want to create a community in which millennials are empowered to dream big and point the way to a future in which mobile-enabled organizations leverage social data in real time and create exceptional experiences for their customers. The student entrepreneurship program will nurture this.”

SAP plans to roll out the program first in Europe and later in Asia and the U.S., and aims to win 100 universities as partners by the end of 2014. Leading universities worldwide have already expressed interest in supporting 10,000 potential student entrepreneurs as multipliers and by developing relevant curricula.

The new entrepreneurship program is part of the SAP University Alliances program, a global initiative with nearly 1,500 member institutions in more than 80 countries. SAP University Alliances is aimed at universities and vocational schools that want to actively integrate SAP software into their teaching. SAP promotes real-life, future-oriented training through the program by making the latest SAP technology available to lecturers and students worldwide.

Latest Version of SAP Business One for SAP HANA Empowers SMEs to Better Run Their Businesses in Real Time

HANOVER — SAP AG today announced general availability of the 9.0 version of the SAP Business One application, version for SAP HANA. As the first business management solution for small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) running on the in-memory computing platform SAP HANA, the application helps businesses supercharge application performance and analyze growing volumes of data in real time. Available on premise or in the cloud and hosted by partners, it is designed with flexibility and choice in mind to help SMEs innovate and achieve scalable growth. The announcement was made at CeBIT 2014, being held March 10–14 in Hanover, Germany.

The new version of SAP Business One for SAP HANA offers features that are only possible with the use of in-memory technology, enabling analysis of structured and unstructured information within seconds instead of days. With deep insights from the predictive analytics capabilities of SAP HANA, SMEs are able to optimize business planning, operations and decision-making while simultaneously gaining insight into new consumer trends and behavior. Customers around the world and across all industries are leveraging the new version to create centralized systems to manage all data, control both internal and external processes and gain improved insight into complex business processes.

ALDI Nord Switches to the SAP for Retail Solution Portfolio

HANOVER — SAP AG today announced the supermarket chain ALDI Nord has selected the SAP for Retail solution portfolio to support its dynamic growth and modernize its retailing. The standard enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution will replace the company’s previous in-house system and will be used to manage retail processes at all company locations, from orders and warehouse management to store deliveries. ALDI Nord also aims to achieve greater transparency in its goods transactions through use of the solution. The announcement was made at CeBIT 2014, being held March 10-14 in Hanover, Germany.

With more than 2,400 stores in Germany alone, ALDI group’s business activities in nine European countries make it one of the continent’s leading retail companies. SAP for Retail is designed to increase transparency in flows of goods and finances all the way from the vendor to the customer. This will enable ALDI Nord and its stores to achieve a number of long-term benefits. In particular, the company will need less time to provide its regional subsidiaries with extensive business reports. ALDI Nord is now implementing the solution and aligning its business processes with the standards of SAP for Retail. Thanks to its template-based approach, the company plans to complete the rollout in short order.

SAP Releases Survey Data Reaffirming Rapid Market Changes in Telecommunications Industry

WALLDORF — Following Mobile World Congress 2014, SAP AG today released results from surveys conducted on-site to help identify top issues facing the telecommunications ecosystem. Recognizing that communications service providers (CSPs) play a key role in advancing innovative business models such as cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT). SAP today also announced the appointment of Howard Stevens as global general manager of the Telecommunications Business Unit.

“The telecommunications industry is in the midst of rapid change and intense market pressures, and under Howard’s leadership we will work collaboratively with carriers to help them identify and maximize business opportunities,” said Simon Paris, global head, Strategic Industries, SAP. “CSPs are looking for strategic partners to help them transform and thrive in this new world order. As findings from our survey conducted at Mobile World Congress confirm, they need to more deeply engage with customers, invest in operational innovations and create new revenue streams.”

The survey findings reflect the sentiments of mobile operators, fixed telecommunication providers, over-the-top (OTT) players and other global mobile industry executives, and confirm the perception of market undergoing dramatic change. Of the 300 respondents, 68 percent believe current business models are threatened by OTT players, shifts in consumer behavior or capital constraints. With 71 percent of leaders believing that new services will significantly contribute to revenue growth over the next three years, many are exploring or already producing new capabilities and services, with a focus on IoT and data monetization.

Among IoT use cases being evaluated, asset location, utilization and optimization was listed as the most common (33 percent). The most critical factor in successful IoT implementation will be the ability to manage data, with 24 percent highlighting real-time data management, events and alerts as most critical and 28 percent responding that the ability to manage data and applications in the cloud is vital to IoT success. Notably, 40 percent of respondents felt that quality of performance and legal compliance or security and privacy issues must be resolved before widespread and rapid adoption of IoT will occur.

Responses also show that while 70 percent feel that the ability to manage Big Data is important to their company, 40 percent do not have a Big Data strategy. And 31 percent of respondents said that the lack of IT skills or insufficient data quality was their biggest challenge to sufficiently capitalizing on Big Data opportunities while 28 percent listed insufficient funding or proof of ROI as their biggest obstacle. Among cloud services, critical enterprise apps, managed mobility and managed-cloud-as-a-service (MCaaS) were rated as the most valuable services, and 79 percent of respondents listed themselves as planning or executing some cloud services solutions.

In his new role, Stevens will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end portfolio of SAP solutions, applications and services tailored to meet the needs of the telecommunications industry worldwide. He will lead a team dedicated to delivering solutions that help CSPs and other industry players achieve accelerated growth and business model innovation. Previously, Stevens served as senior vice president and head of Global Sales for SAP Mobile Services, responsible for the continued profitable growth of global messaging revenues across the telecommunications community and other market verticals. As the commercial lead, he drove the overall go-to-market plan, overseeing targeted M&A activity to help augment overall offerings and successfully changed the strategic direction of the business unit to match the market’s evolving needs. Stevens has held numerous leadership roles in the enterprise mobility and services industry, including serving on the executive team for Sybase 365, which was acquired by SAP in 2010. He previously ran the global sales teams for ADC Metrica and First Hop, where he raised venture capital finance and led the company’s M&A activity.

More Effective Cancer Therapies With SAP HANA

SAP-TV_NCT Patients suffering from cancer often have to wait many years for a therapy to be effective. To address this problem, the National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg, Germany, is working with SAP. Analyzing masses of data with the patient data explorer based on the in-memory platform SAP HANA enables the development of individual, highly adjusted therapies against cancer.

SAP and Partners at CeBIT 2014: Focus on the Cloud and SAP HANA

HANOVER — SAP AG today announced upcoming activities with customers and partners at CeBIT 2014, being held March 10-14 in Hanover, Germany. This year, SAP partners will once again exhibit their solutions directly in the company’s 4,000 square-meter booth, located in hall 4 C04. At 27 demo stations, they will present solutions and technologies in innovation areas around the SAP HANA platform and SAP Cloud powered by SAP HANA, as well as end-to-end enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions for small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) and industry and line-of-business offerings. On the central SAP stage, partners and customers will hold sessions explaining how SAP technology platforms help them move their businesses forward. Startups will present live demonstrations of how SAP solutions help their young companies achieve success.

“Our CeBIT 2014 motto, ‘Join the Team,’ is targeted at customers and partners, as well as startups, developers and young professionals — the event is a communications and networking platform to bring them all together,” said Jochen Wiessler, head of SME and Ecosystem in Germany, SAP Deutschland AG & Co. KG. “We also want to leverage the show to address new partners that work with our innovation platforms. The centerpiece of the SAP stand in 2014 are three showrooms, called “golden rooms,” which will present innovative highlights from the SAP solution and service portfolio through product presentations, interactive information elements and customer projects. Gold sponsor partners Cisco/Intel, IBM and TDS/Fujitsu are integrated in the golden rooms for the first time and will present solutions based on SAP HANA and SAP Cloud powered by SAP HANA, as well as real-life application scenarios by reference customers. The golden rooms include:

  • SAP Cloud powered by SAP HANA showroom, which will offer answers to the question of how the SAP Cloud can help simplify business processes and make them more flexible. The central showcase will demonstrate the use of a social customer replationship management (CRM) solution by SAP customer Nespresso.

  • SAP HANA showroom, which will show how Big Data is transforming the economy and what opportunities companies can leverage using real-time scenarios. The central showcase is the cooperation between SAP and the German Soccer Association (DFB) to analyze player performance in real time.

  • SAP Vision showroom, which will address questions such as “How will we work in the future? What will the factory of tomorrow look like? What challenges do Generation Y and Industry 4.0 pose?” The central showcase of this showroom is an innovative pump scenario that illustrates the possibilities of smart maintenance and service processes.
