About the role:



This Analyst position will have responsibility for the following work scope activities:



Deployment

- Work with and deploy leading Request to Pay technologies from SAP including ECC, SAP Sourcing and/or SRM

- Responsible for deploying large scale global SAP systems and business process and associated implementations as well as smaller, faster innovative initiatives within the construct of the larger global business across the enterprise

- Conduct user training and on site deployment routines

Solution Enhancement

- Create business requirements for solution enhancements across the Request to Pay SAP environment

- Participate in system enhancement projects to support the new business requirements including participating in technical reviews and leading User Acceptance Testing signoff to ensure solutions meet both functional and quality requirements.

- Support creation and lead delivery of training materials as needed to foster a more effective use of SAP systems by the user community



Center of Excellence

- Provide system support related to deployments

- Provide level 2 support to users of the system

- Be a mentor for Reporting and KPIs and metrics within assigned subject area

- Perform problem root cause analysis to implement solutions that prevent problem reoccurrence

The Digital Restroom: Big Data’s New Frontier

Austrian hygiene company Hagleitner equips the restrooms of fast-food restaurants, hospital operating theaters, and cruise ship bathrooms with sensors to optimize resource planning. To handle the immense volumes of data that result, Hagleitner uses a central platform based on SAP HANA.


In Austria, any patrons visiting the restrooms of their favorite fast-food restaurant are unlikely to notice the sudden abundance of sensors. They keep track of how many people use the facilities, how often faucets are used, and whether sufficient stocks of soap, air freshener, and paper towels remain.

How many people use the facility and how much soap is left can be monitored on a tablet PC. Hagleitner customers can optimize stock levels and better plan inspections. The senseManagement server runs on SAP HANA.


“The sensors regularly transmit their data to the base station,” explains Gernot Bernert, managing director at Hagleitner, a hygiene specialist headquartered in the Austrian lake-side resort of Zell am See. He is not, however, interested in how long a customer spent washing his hands. His aim is to create mathematical models that will revolutionize restroom resource planning. “We want to add value,” says Bernert, an electrical engineer. “Our data even allows us to optimize how we deploy cleaning personnel.”


From Big Data to value-added services

To Hagleitner, the “digital restroom” means better customer service. Speaking at the SAP Innovation Days event, he said: “We used to sell paper, now we sell expertise.” Hagleitner used to develop and produce disinfectants, dispenser systems, and cleaning agents that were used everywhere, from hotel bedding to airport restrooms, and even in hospital operating theaters. This midsize company, which employees 950 people and generated revenue of €84 million in 2013, is now going even further. Having digitized restrooms, it wants to offer what Bernert calls value-added services.


It all began in 2011, when Hagleitner business developers laid out 130 scenarios in their vision paper on Big Data. At the core of their efforts was the concept of networked systems. They would enable the company to offer added value to their customers and to benefit from this added value themselves. For instance, Hagleitner’s engineers improved electronic systems and developed an add-on wireless circuit board that enables dispensers to relay their current fill levels. Customer feedback, however, was less than enthusiastic, with most customers unconvinced that it was worth putting advanced technology into restrooms. Despite these reactions, Bernert and his colleagues held onto their idea.


100 patents for the digital restroom

Some 100 registered patents later, customer interest was finally awakened. Following in the footsteps of the fast-food chain, a hospital near Hagleitner’s headquarters in Zell am See equipped their 1,300 dispensers with the senseManagement sensors. A cruise ship company was the next customer. Before their vessels reach the next port, workers there already know how much toilet paper and soap was used, and how many paper towels need to be brought on board. “With far greater precision than ever before,” says Bernert.


Whereas a fast-food restaurant generates just 45 megabytes of data per day, large companies and hospitals have to handle much larger volumes of data. A single dispenser transmits 27 measurements, alongside time data, the location of the device, and the customer name. After the data is collected at the base station, it is forwarded to SAP HANA.


“We use SAP HANA in the cloud,” says Bernert, who is looking for answers to big-picture questions. “The cloud server defines how the data is used. That’s what we use SAP HANA for,” says Bernert, explaining how he stays on top of so much data. The analysis that run on SAP HANA have a clear purpose: Bernert wants to know how to match supply and demand, how to save storage space, and how to optimize logistics and the deployment of personnel.


Hagleitner’s customers aren’t the only ones who benefit. Hagleitner itself has now reached its long-term goal of knowing how much disinfectant and how many dispensers to produce.


Producing to demand, saving warehouse space, simply producing what the market wants as sustainably as possible are the goals the company wants to achieve. The amalgamated data from all of Hagleitner’s customers soon reaches the terabyte range. “That’s when it gets really interesting,” says Bernert, whose pet phrase in his talks is “Big Washroom Data.”

CFOs’ Quest for the Golden Source of Data

CFOs are now leading the charge for digital transformation and the quest for the golden source of data. SAP’s CFO expert Kai Finck, an advocate of forward-looking business management, confirms the survey findings of German consultancy BearingPoint.


Three out of four finance executives believe digital transformation will be setting the CFO agenda in the next few years. But digitalization is not the only megatrend being shaped by advances in IT. Regulatory compliance and sustainability are also set to benefit, according to BearingPoint’s 2013/2014 CFO Survey findings.



CFOs’ imperatives are better analytics and analytics for business departments.



“CFOs are frustrated with the situation right now,” says BearingPoint’s director Ingmar Röhrig , who led the survey of 65 finance officers at companies ranging from multinationals to midsize businesses. More often than not, it takes manual work to calculate how profitable a product is. Data is stored in multiple systems, so finding the answers you need at the press of a button is virtually impossible. Mergers and acquisitions add to the complexity.


CFOs as partners to the business

That is why finance chiefs are keen to help business departments get the IT they need. The survey found that four out of five CFOs believe that analytics must improve. Top of the list are drilldown functions to allow business departments to analyze their own profitability how and when they want. Kai Finck , senior vice president at SAP’s Office of CFO Solutions, agrees: “CFOs are corporate pilots, and are starting to partner more with the business.”


This is in response to growing pressure within companies to gain more insights from the business. Röhrig says: “CFOs now have to do much more but without hiring more people.” Nowadays, companies are seeking a different skillset in new hires. They are no longer looking for experts in transaction data. They need analytics specialists who can dig out precise operational insights from mountains of data.


Keeping up with regulatory change

The second major trend, new regulations, has the same IT implications. More companies are adopting integrated reporting. This approach takes a much broader view, covering a company’s strategy, governance, performance, and future prospects. It combines traditional financial reports, such as balance sheets and cash flow statements, with non-financial elements, such as a sustainability report, risk management report, and corporate governance aspects. The Integrated Reporting Committee (IIRC), formed in 2010, is driving this change.


Companies are not only being asked for broader information, but for ever more detailed numbers. “Regulators want far more granular data,” says BearingPoint’s Ingmar Röhrig. “Consolidated balance sheets and income statements are not enough.” Snapshots no longer suffice. Technology has to be able to provide the additional data the regulators are seeking.


Forecasting: picking up the pace

When asked about the third trend, sustainability, CFOs were less concerned about sustainability reporting on, say, the carbon footprint of their company’s production processes or its social engagement. They were more interested in the assumptions they base their budgets on. Respondents to BearingPoint’s survey said they were working to ever shorter budget and control cycles. The 12-month budget cycle has been replaced by more frequent forecasts. IT has to help them pick up the pace.


Almost half of the CFOs said they needed financial and operational planning to be better integrated. One in three wanted to be able to run through different scenarios. Just under a quarter of those surveyed wanted to be able to budget and forecast more frequently.


Without a golden source of data, none of these needs can be met. The ideal is no longer utopian. This is what CFOs are pushing for, and, according to Ingmar Röhrig, what they now expect.
