Job Description



Implement common GM design-in ergonomic process during vehicle development process for new product programs. Include ergonomic requirements in the product manufacturability requirements and the centers manufacturing technical specifications using lessons learned from other new product programs and manufacturing plant input. Decisions are to be made within the limits of general practices, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of the organizational structure will be important. Required to learn and use GM’s digital human modeling tool – Classic Jack for math based analysis.

This position requires the need to assimilate data from many sources, and apply both practical and technical problem solving techniques. Assist in driving common ergonomics processes and design across current and major activities.



Major Duties and Responsibilities



- Provide technical support for current & Major programs at the assembly plant

- Ensure the Ergonomics requirements are implemented throughout the duration of all new vehicle programs.

- Perform analysis & evaluation of operations, interpret specifications and guidelines, and provide technical recommendations to all requisite functions. Track open ergonomics issues to closure. Facilitate first level screening for ergonomic stressors and coordinate follow-up through appropriate engineering team.

- Train plant engineers in the process and specific analysis methods and tools. Train manufacturing engineers and full-service vendors in the use of the Ergonomics Tooling Worksheets.

- Use 3D Math Digital Human Model (DHM) Simulations to ensure technical ergonomic options are understood and acceptable for implementation on either new programs or focus factory applications.

- Provide communication "bridge" between plant ergonomics and Central Office/Headquarters engineering activities by bringing current plant ergonomics issues to the appropriate design and manufacturing engineers.

- Assist Plants with identification and development of ergonomics solutions on plant specific requests and issues.

- Participate and lead as appropriate specific ergonomics initiatives/projects as needed.

- Provide timely written reports and updates on specific ergonomics projects

- Participates in the training of Team Leaders and Group Leaders in GMS and IE skills

- Assists in the development and control of budgets and forecasts within assigned area

- Directs building and facility layout production for assigned area

- Directs the measurement and control of direct and indirect labor, the conducting of methods studies, and other cost effectiveness studies within this area

- Completes special studies or assignments

- Coordinates the flow of information between departments and organizations.

- Assists in resolving labor disputes pertaining to labor standards

- Directs and develops appropriate systems and procedures, and monitors safety practices

- Participates in short and long range planning for product, facilities, and manpower within assigned area

- Regular contact with others outside the work group

- Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards

- Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project

- Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions

- Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise

- Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

- Proven GMS implementation experience

- Drives productivity initiatives with area of responsibility

- Able to work multiple shifts

- Willing and able to travel to support program launches



Qualifications



Basic Required



- 3+ years proficiency with ergonomic analytical tools in manufacturing/industry

- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute ergonomic manufacturing projects and job changes

- High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills-ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

- High level of analytical ability and problem solving skills

- Demonstrated ability to work well with multiple customers at the same time

- Demonstrated ability to work with the UAW and other unions.



Basic Preferred



- Masters degree in an Engineering related field with a specialization in ergonomics

- Automotive experience

- AutoCAD and CAD/UG working with 3 Dimensional Human Modeling Simulation or advance computer skills



Education



- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
